Hey everyone. Just curious if someone could point out a doc outlining how to attach pdf's, doc's, jpg's, etc... to the knowledge base. I have a lot of docs that I would like to put into the KB so that I don't have to be so dependant on my thumb-drive. Thanks in advance!

Hi there.
I cant see any way of uploading a doc directly to the Knowledge Base article like you can in a service request, but you can link to files on a web server.

Option 1
In your Knowledge base article select any text and you will see the icon for "Insert/Edit link" will become available. Click this icon and you get a window asking for URL, Name and option to open in same or new window.
I have just tested this and seems to work really well.

BUT! this is no good to you if you dont have ready access to your own web server.

Option 2
this is a bit clunky but... copy the content of your document into a new article, it should hold most formatting, but of course will only really work for standard type docs. As I said, a bit clucky, but it might be better than using your USB stick.

maybe sysaid tech support can suggest a better way.

good luck.

Bravo. I appreciate the post and included options!

I hadn't thought about the link option (actually didn't even know about it). That may be the route to go. I can tie in my server which has all of the data with the SysAidCSS option. Great work. I will monitor this forum in case someone else posts anything else and in the mean time, begin working out your suggestion! Thanks!!

Hey Roadblockx,

In addition, you can also insert the following UNC Paths to those documents:
(On the local HD)
c:\subdir\file.ext -> file:///c:/subdir/file.ext.
c:\temp\report.pdf -> file:///c:/temp/report.pdf
(On the Network)
\\servername\share\file.ext -> file://///servername/share/file.ext
\\nemo\Storage\Firass\test.txt -> file://///nemo/Storage/Firass/test.txt

Hi APN and Roadblockx,

I can confirm that we are developing the option to add attachments to Knowledge base items.
It will be integrated in SysAid CSS in one of the next releases.

Meanwhile, both ways will work.

I heard of another work around some SysAiders came up with :
Upload and Add an attachment to a Service Request,
When you put your mouse over the attachment name in the Service Request Form you get a long link.
You can use this link in the Knowledge base as APN described - it will pull up the attachment.

Good luck !

Oded

Great response! I was hoping I would be able to add docs to the KB without creating a "mock" ticket. I will give your suggestions a shot and post back what I find. Thanks again mates!

Greetings everyone! I was wondering if Sysaid CSS is any further in making the knowledge database intergated into the app? Thanks.

Hello Roadblockx,

The launch of the new SysAid CSS version will be in the next few weeks.
This new version will include the option to add attachments to the knowledge base items.

I wasn't sure what you mean about "making the knowledge database integrated into the app"?

Best regards.
Haim

After reading the posts over again, I see that there is a way to link the docs using my server. <Thanks Adam>

When is the next version coming out?
