Sysaid uses kinda UVNC for remote connections, we work with UVNC RC16 viewer on admin machines for remote connections.
UVNC needs development and as well i see sysaid team does not support much on this RC module.
I bet everybody have speed problems on connection to vista machines, how to overcome this problem is our primary obj. we used most versions of VNC but the series (currently) end up with UVNC 1.04 RC16 version.
Anybody how to solve this Vista slow connection issue?

Well, vista as we all know has placed a big of a challenge to software developers everywhere, and remote control applications are no different.
One thing I can suggest you to do is to deploy the SysAid agent with mirror driver.
This usually increase the performance, even in vista.

In English please...
*wrinkles on forehead*
But I've got another problem with this feature... I already got stuff installed and set specifically to kill anything "remote" anywhere in my network before I know SysAid.
So ummm... well...
*sigh*
I'm working on this....
with my shrink.

Well, in the deployment tool (starting version 5 of the deployment tool), if you will go to edit > settings you have the "remote control settings" and there you can check the "Install mirror driver to accelerate performance"
after doing the changes, you can re-deploy SysAid agent with this change.

Actually, this is usually a very easy error to resolve
in order to solve this issue, please hover your mouse over SysAid remote control icon on the taskbar of your workstation. It should say "SysAid remote control viewer listening…" if it has the word "encrypted" in this line, please right click the icon and pick "toggle encryption mode on/off" to disable the encryption.
Next, please logon SysAid server go to system > asset list. Pick the asset you want to remote control, and in its page, go to RC tab.
Please make sure the check box in this page isn’t checked.
Now both server and asset have the same settings, and the RC should work.
You can also do this process to enable encrypted remote control.

Ok, that worked, but has anybody run into issues witht symantec AV thinking sysaid is attempting to "temper " with the AV program?

some AV software will recognize the agent file as a "unsafe program" this happens since the agent is collecting information on the computer it is installed on (to create an asset)
axiservices, just put the IliAS.exe as "ignored" in your AV, this is an identification error of the agent by the anti virus.

You'll notice (especially depending on your version of Symantecs Antivirus) that most RC programs that install as a service will be flagged to bring it to your attention that you have an open connection to that computer.
Funny thing, the other day SAV picked up AWHOST which is actually PCAnywheres Host connection -- it showed it as a potential virus -- which is strange because PCAnywhere is made by Symantec.
You'd think they'd know their own program.

I only found one solution - to turn off aero on the vista machine.
But I have another problem. If I try to install a software over remote connection (vnc) on a vista machine, I get a disconnet. Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

One thing that has continued to be a need for us is to have the SysAid RC be able to take advantage of UltraVNC's ability to interact with a UltraVNC Repeater service.
This is critical when you are traveling and need to remotely control a machine, but you are behind NAT (on a hotel's network, etc.) and you can't open the ports back through their firewall to your laptop, etc.
The repeater allows you to use the VNC client to connect to the Repeater running on your server at the corporate office, and then the client calls into the repeater as well, and it links the two of you up together.
I would think that this type of session key for both the admin station and for the workstation to be controlled would be a great feature for SysAid and would insure that remote connectivity between an admin and end user would always be possible no matter where they are.
Just a thought?

Hi Harold.Ballinger,
You remarks about the UltraVNC Repeater service are fully understood and we are famliar with this functionality.
I will have the technical teams take a look at this to see what it takes to set it up within SysAid.

Hi axiservices,
The SysAid agent collects information from the machine it is installed on, among the information, it collects the processes that run on the machine.
It actualy justs pulls the list of running processes - I can't see why that would trigger Symantec's protection alert
Did you happen to define a monitoring on this specific process ?
I would be happy to have the technical teams further investigate this if you could provide us some more information.
Regards,
Oded
