Most applications tend to use the same icons which makes picking them up quicker for new users.
for example :-
The adobe icon meaning print - why not use just an icon of a printer?
The turned up list icon to create a new service request - why not just use a + icon symbolising adding a new request or the standard windows blank page icon?
The red circle with an X - why not the more commonly used waste paper basket symbol ?
the duplicate service request button - why not use the standard copy icon attached below ?
the spelling one is ok, except the tick goes the wrong way.
the design cog wheel for customizing settings is normally represented as a hammer and spanner in an x configuration (see attachment below) or a picture of a toolbox.
Although I see that Internet explorer 7 now uses a cog wheel to represent tools.
in the projects gantt chart the customise the order of the tasks icon looks too much like the design icon - so when it was first introduced as a feature I did not even spot it! just a picture of an up arrow above a down arrow would have been clearer.
or are there copyright reasons that the standard ones cannot be used.
I couldn't agree with you more techguy, the Adobe icon was the most confusing though

IMHO the icons are alright. They play little to no role in quickly accessing where you need to go. I agree that they don't 100% correlate to where they are assigned, but with how many items are in each category I can't imagine that anything would be a perfect fit.

Hi There,
I am here and following this topic .....
So I am getting the vibes that the Adobe icon is not that great for printing
You would prefer a printer in this case........
Let's hear some more suggestions.
I can tell you that the process of choosing an icon to represent a function or entity is done in 2 phases : concept and then design.
The design part is easy and professional teams manage it.
The concept is much harder and I am announcing now that I will use this forum to get your ideas for the concept of future icons !
About the existing ones - I am all ears for your ideas :!:

Perfect, that's the response we like to hear and that's why we like Sysaid / Illient so much.

Although I agree they are quite abiguous and the first couple of days you'll be going slowly trying to find the right icon, but once these first few days have gone by, you've set up the system and been using it a good while you start using things automatically as you would in any other program.
Like any other software it takes some getting used to, that is all. Although it would be nice for them to be more clear, I think 95% of people on the forum/using SysAid will be used to it by now. I agree it needs a change, but for those of us already using the software is it going to make that much of a difference?

I think the icons are not intuitive enough.
We can get used to them but it would be better if the icons would be "natural".
If you can open a page and right away to know who is who it's the best option.
The "makeup" is a good thing but on before the "comfort".
Regarding the asset icons.
I would expect that a program for IT will have much more categories and icons .... by default.

My very first post.. yay me.. and since you asked for noobish opinions
anyway moving on.. For the most part, the icons have been a learning curve. Not that it was difficult by any means, just different. the adobe to print is a little out there. But for the most part, I'm getting the hang of it. If I was to make a request, i'm more if a text button kinda guy. So maybe a switch to turn either graphic buttons on or text ones.
that's my 2 cents. (probably worth about 1)

A thought occurred to me the other day, why is the Asset Management section called "System" and not "Assets" ?
This is something I frequently have to explain to new admins when they say "where do I find the asset database?"

It probably is, I was just interested to find out why it got named system in the first place, and whether this unspecific title causes problems for other newcomers to sysaid.
