Like working in a large arts organisation servers were named after operas and had nice names, now in NHS and servers are alphabetised after the domain main, very dull!

I started with server01, server02. Then it became DC01, DC02, EXCH01, EXCH02 etc.
But with too many servers and too many possibilities we started with:
Character to define whether server is physical or virtual
Character to define whether server is in develop, testing or production phase
Character to define computer task (DC, EX, fileserver)
Character to define location of server (as in geography)
Numbers to uniquely identify the servers with the same tasks

Assumption is the mother of all fuckups... |
