I like the way my anti-malware system does it (Vipre Business). On the main page, there is a box called "Product Notices" that lists Installed Version, Available Version, and has a link to the latest, along with any "news" and alerts the vendor puts out. The information is always there when needed, but unobtrusive. If Sysaid had a similar area on the Admin Portal page, I would think that would meet most everyone's needs.
