Since the assets cost $$ to manage, does Sysaid have any way to auto-manage old ones?
Old assets being machine names that have changed, machines that have died or decommissioned, etc.
If not automatic, what is the best practice on here for managing? Right now we are maxed out on assets and
suspect a bunch are old ones.
Are people just deleting anything that shows in report not checked in in x amount of days/months?

I ran out of assets the other day, we have just upgraded, but we could do with away to de-activate an asset, like you can with the user accounts, because even though we have disposed of old assets, for auditing purposes we really need to leave them on their for a while, they just don't need to be live anymore. I feel a feature request coming on..... http://www.ilient.com/Sysforums/posts/list/0/1850.page

I agree, we also would need to retain records of expired/decommisioned machines, but as we are no longer managing them as clients the only way we can do it is to have a second register on another system

I also agree
We have been completing an asset review and have been using the asset module. but if we remove the old assets we have no way of auditing them, as a temport measure we created a "decommissioned" group and have put them there, but it still uses one of the asset licenses to do this.
Surely we could have a way of marking the assets as decommissioned, sysaid then marks the asset as read only (and removes from any selection), doesnt count it against a license. But also have a facilty to re-enable if required.
