We use the Projects & Tasks module heavily, but most my feature request are languishing at the bottom of the feature requests forum with only a few votes,
Does this mean hardly anyone else uses this module?
Is this why it has recieved so little development by ilient up until the latest release, when they improved it quite a bit?
Or is it so lacking in features that you have not been able to use it up to now?
Let me summarise the feature requests and see if this draws any more votes
An option to duplicate a project with all it's tasks - http://www.ilient.com/Sysforums/posts/preList/52/59.page
Hyperlink tasks in the Project Gantt Chart - http://www.ilient.com/Sysforums/posts/preList/105/124.page
Statistic of projects on the dashboard - http://www.ilient.com/Sysforums/posts/preList/217/402.page
Project-Tasks Improved Reporting Options - http://www.ilient.com/Sysforums/posts/preList/224/447.page
Overall Projects Module Ghant Chart - http://www.ilient.com/Sysforums/posts/preList/285/692.page
project start and stop dates to be driven by the tasks start and stop times - http://www.ilient.com/Sysforums/posts/preList/286/693.page
Convert SR to a project or task - http://www.ilient.com/Sysforums/posts/preList/334/1040.page
Projects/tasks messages tab missing - http://www.ilient.com/Sysforums/posts/preList/289/737.page
Add dependancies to tasks - http://www.ilient.com/Sysforums/posts/preList/107/126.page
Lets hear your views and then maybe this module will get somemore development time!

We will start using the Project and Task Module. At the moment I'm just fine tuning sysaid to our needs.
Kind regards,
René

Hi Techguy !
I am glad you are leading issues like this and it does help us focus on your needs - so I hope other SysAiders will enter your topic and place their votes and replies.
Regarding the Project & tasks moduel :
Yes we are planning to expand it's features - we added a few new features in 5.5 : re-occuring events and notifications.
We are planning to add more features like templates and a duplicate project option.
Also the planned Change Management module will be using the Project and Tasks capabilities and they will be enhanced as well.
I'll share more detailed information on the upcoming release regarding Project and Tasks as soon as it is available.
Oded

Hi
i bought the module and thought it would be really useful but what i found was i concentrate on Helpdesk a lot and forgot to t look there
The fact that i can get a task to notify me with an SR might improve things. But for me the one big let down the really stopped my usage was the fact that i could not record my emails in it. If we had this feature we would use it more. Of course the other knock on form this was that suppliers, contractors were can not be emailed even if they are in the supplier list as you have to be a user of sysadi to get an email
A handy feature here also could be its ability to integrate to outlook. As once it was there i would be synced to my phone and email

Hi Jonathan,
Including Email messages in the task/project is a good example of one of the feature that are indeed planned in the next version.
Could you give some more details on the integration you are talking about with outlook ?

Regarding outlook integration, thats a cool Idea, Outlook has tasks and synchronises with my pda, it would be great if I could synchronise any sysaid tasks or service requests that are assigned to me, with outlook. That would be the most amazing feature ever!
I'm off to add this one to the feature request forum now....

Really what im thinking is the following task are to dos in Outlook. so these could synchronize.
You could create an item similar to a Task that would be a meeting and then this would synchronize with your calendar.
There are numerous applications that do this all ready. In particular Sales application do this very well, saleslogix, goldmine etc. But for an end user if you could get tasks and meetings to go to your outlook calender it would save time.
The few projects that i have used i had to go to outlook for my meetings.
In relations to the TO DO list if it is not an SR i do not create a task i create a TO DO in Outlook so again if these were pushed from sysaid to outlook i would use the the tasks and Projects much much much more .
Also i think it would be a great selling point.
Hope that helps if not let me know

I put my vote in on a few of these, but most notably "An option to duplicate a project with all it's tasks".

The Projects and task module can be very helpful but currently is limited.
Because we have Sysaid using SQL as our database I am able to manage some of the data in access.
The big area I need (with SysAid in general) is more customization ability. I need to be able to customize the screens with more fields or different type of fields.
I do not have enough types of text fields (for example) and the integer fields do not allow decimal points. I need the same ability for the reporting aspect.
The Project reports are weak so I have to pull the data with Access to get what I need.

Several of these feature requests would be nice but the one thing holding me back from using my Projects module is "messages". Because of this I keep putting projects in as SR's just so that I can capture the communication between team members. Every time I try to use the modules I abandon my efforts, mainly because the message feature doesn't exist.
Count my vote for Message feature for Projects and also Projects/Tasks. Oh, and can I get this feature asap too? Thanks

I am new to sysaid. Anyone know how to capture approval/authorization message for projects and tasks? e.g. Technician sends a request to project manager. The manager reply to approve the task.
Thanks.

We use the Project/Tasks module for tracking admin tasks, projects, etc. The one thing that I find that would really help me out would be a way to easily Synchronize my projects from MS Project back and forth with SysAid.
SysAid's Project module is perfect for tracking the current status of the projects and tracking time booked, etc. It's also nice to have a single app to manage all time whether it is project, admin, or support.
I use MS Project because I need its capabilities for projections of future timelines, taking into consideration all constraints and resources across multiple projects. Right now, it is a completely manual process for me to keep MS Project up to date with the info from SysAid.
Even if there was a simple way for me to export/import to accomplish this task, it would greatly improve my ability to track our projects efficiently.
I love Techguy's feature requests and I hope that the Ilient staff realizes that feature requests shouldn't just be a factor of "let's tackle the ones with the highest votes" because I believe this will sell us all short on the benefits of the extra modules. Since the modules have only a percentage of the adoption rate of the base product, I think that feature requests for the modules should be considered with a higher priority. My reasoning is that if you have 1000 people running the base product and 200 using the module, 10 votes for a FR on the main product means 1% of the customers see the need, but 10 votes for a FR in a module is 5 times as important to the user base. Plus, if Ilient meets that need in the modules, it creates an "upsale opportunity" and increased revenue opportunities (business case) in their existing customer base.
I will continue voting for the Feature Requests for the Project and Tasks module and I can tell everyone that doesn't have it yet that it is a valuable module to have in your SysAid package.

Hi brucewok and welcome to our community !
An idea to support your request:
* ( Make sure to activate Email integration )
From within the task - You can define a notification that opens a Service Request.
If you assign the Admin that needs to approve the request - he will receive an email and the Service request - you can continue the process from here....
If the person that approves is not a SysAider - you can have the Service Request that is opened assigned to yourself , and have the Request user be the one that needs to approve - make sure the text in the email he receives instructs him to reply by email to either approve or deny the Request - you will be notified that he responded and can see his response in the Service request - again you can continue the process from here .....
If you need a more robust solution Please checkout and vote for our planned Change Management module : http://www.ilient.com/Sysforums/posts/list/7.page#7
