I'm currently using sysaid to manage over 300 Computers in our company. With this we've had great sucess! But alas.. I've come across a problem that i need suggestions for.

Were currently in transition to switch all of our 300 Computers over from Windows XP to Windows 7 on a 3 year Rotation.
This year we've done 30 already and have another 70 planned. Here is the problem i'm facing.

With windows 7 you have "more" parental options for "standard" users. This will easily allow us to control which programs are installed and which the "end user" can't install.
With this option set. We thought we were golden. We found a way for windows updates to still work and certain programs to go through the cracks to be updated (our office specific programs) Using.. "Secure Runner". Now we've also installed and have been playing with "privilage manager", but it doesn't seem to be working.. or i'm not using it correctly. (which i honestly think i am.. i'm not really dumb on this stuff... lol)

Now.... What ISN'T WORKING.... is Adobe updates and java updates.. and ANY Windows update that uses a .exe to update.

It's asking for a admin password. We don't want this for adobe or java updates. Is there a way around this? Is there a option i'm potentially missing.

Why won't these programs specfically update but others will and how do i correct this.. I don't want 300 users calling me for a Adobe & Java update everytime they put one out.

Thanks again for your time and i hope someone out there can help me.. lol

The quick and dirty fix would be simply kill all the automatic update of all those software. Might need to hunt down a command line for that.
Except the it staff's pc. That way you still know when there's an update.

The better way to address this is, imeplement "patch management" (google this you will see options). With 300 users it would be worthwhile to implement one. It's practically a server that gives the ability to deploy updates when you want it, and how you want it.
Some solution even let you pack ANY application so you can deploy it in mass.

That is not a bug, it's a feature...

hmm thanks for those recomendations... I'll see what we come up with. I'm not sure my boss wants to implement a "patch management" server.. although this has been discussed.
