Hi,
Usually when I deploy Sysaid to a rebuilt machine with a new OS, it creates a new entry in Asset Management and I have to combine the two and delete the old one. But today, I deployed via the deployment tool and not by network discovery and it just updated the old entry. This is brilliant!
My question is, why did this happen? What piece of hardware is it looking at to know it is the same machine? It is not the HDDs because these were changed. I have never seen it do this before.
Thanks.

I believe This will happen in the deploy tool if you DO NOT have Generate Random Asset ID checked
Because, then SysAid deploy should be using the MAC of the NIC that it connected with
You can tell this with the asset ID IE:"COMPUTER-1 (99-03-2F-06-DD-9B)" the computer name is next to the MAC instead "COMPUTER-1 (TOSHIBA-5A235017W)
Since the MAC is almost always the same, unless you have to change it, it works even after OS reinstall or HD replacement

Dear JackMartin,
Duplicated assets should be created only if the asset id is changed meaning there are three ways to present the asset id by random asset id, mac address or brand-Serial, if the the asset id is the same so it won't create a new one but will update an existing one. You can also see references in this forum:

Thanks Inna

Thank you for the replies. We will now deploy without Generate Random ID checked assuming it will default to the MAC address for asset identification.
What would happen if I changed the Network card on a live machine without OS reinstall? Would sysaid update the hardware information or create a new asset?
Thanks.

Hi JackMartin
In older versions of Sysaid it did work as you described but now the newly deployed agent looks for few parametrs:
1-MAC
2-If it's a brand than Serial and manufacturer.
If there will be a positive match than the asset will be updated with new data.
Now for your last question.
The PC have a registry entry called ID. If you change the NIC the old entry will be updated. If you install a fresh copy of OS and deploy or
simply uninstall and install the agent you will get a new asset BUT ! if thats a brand PC the agent will try to find it serial and manufacturer
and with a positive match the old asset will be updated !!!
Hope I got that right and understandable.
