My Desktop Guide for End Users

SysAid My Desktop allows you to log into your work computer(s) from anywhere that you have an internet connection. The My Desktop page shows you a list of computers that you can connect to remotely. This list has been personalized for you.

Use this list to launch a My Desktop session to any of your computers.

Adding a description to a computer

You can easily add a personal description to any computer that appears in your list. Click the Properties icon in the Properties column to open a new screen where you can add your description. Please go here for further information.

Choosing a computer to connect to

Online computers

My Desktop is available to any computer that has a blue Connect icon. Click the Connect icon to begin the My Desktop session. See Using My Desktop below for further instructions.

Offline computers

If a computer shows the Offline icon, this computer is unavailable for My Desktop. If you move your mouse over the icon, you will see a message telling you why the computer is unavailable. Please let your IT administrator know which computer you are trying to connect to and what the offline message is. Remember: If your computer is turned off, you can't connect and will see the offline message "Agent is offline."

Agent is offline. Did you turn off your computer?

Adding a computer to your list

Is the computer you need to connect to not in your list? If this is the case, please ask your IT administrator to add it for you.

Error messages

If you see one of the following error messages above the computers list, you won't be able to start a My Desktop session:

This indicates that all My Desktop licenses purchased by your IT department are in use. Please try again at a later time.

This message appears when you are using a browser that doesn't support HTML 5. Please upgrade your browser to a newer version (such as Internet Explorer 9 or Google Chrome).

Launching My Desktop

When you click the Connect icon, your My Desktop session begins in a new window.

 Starting My Desktop

Please wait as your My Desktop session is initialized. After a short time, your sessions begins.

Controlling My Desktop

Controlling a My Desktop session is easy:

  • Left click and right click work normally.
  • Typing works normally.
  • Click and drag to move around the visible portion of the screen.
  • To click and drag something, such as a scroll bar: left click, hold for two seconds, and then drag whatever you've clicked on. If you hold for less than two seconds before you start dragging, you will move the visible portion of the screen as described in the previous bullet point.

Additionally, you can use the icons that appear at the top of your screen as follows:

Icon Function
Open a list of special key combinations such as CTRL + ALT + DEL.
Shrink or enlarge the My Desktop screen.
End the My Desktop session.

Special commands for remote control from a mobile device with a touch screen

Right click:
Touch the screen with two fingers instead of one.
Move around the screen:
Touch and drag the image.
Click and drag (such as for a scroll bar):
Touch the screen for two seconds and then drag. If you start to drag too soon, you will move around the screen instead of dragging what's on it.

Using My Desktop

Now that your My Desktop session has started successfully, you see that your computer is locked. The first thing you must do is unlock your computer.

Click the Omega icon. This opens a list of special key combinations. Choose Ctrl Alt Del from the list.

 Unlocking your computer, part 1

Now, log into your computer as you normally would.

 Unlocking your computer, part 2

You are now logged into your computer and can begin using it for work. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your IT administrator.

Enjoy using SysAid My Desktop!
