I have not tested RC (remote control) outside of our LAN. Inside of the lan, I can establish an RC session using either RCG or Direct Connect. Direct Connect seems to perform much better than RCG. The biggest issues I have with RCG is that I cannot click and drag a window remotely.
For instance, I can execute Word. I can type in Word. But I cannot move a Word Window to another part of the screen.
Also, the zoom feature only seems to give me the choice between too big and too small. When it is too big, I cannot scroll down to see the bottom of the screen, so I have to shrink the screen to see the whole screen.
Has anyone else noticed these issues? Does Direct Connect work with agents outside of the lan?
Also, I think the Deploy SysAid separate console is a big improvement! Thanks for that. I think it's much easier to deploy sysaid agents using this tool rather than GPO or scripting or transform files. Since we're a Windows 7 shop, I was able to use a GPO to open the appropriate port and actually see the version of the existing agent on the desired workstation.

You are correct they both have there advantages and DIS-advantages
RCG
No software to install, no port setup , but limited features
You can move your windows with RCG, but you must do it a little "old school"
1) right click on your window top bar (click move)
2) use the arrow keys to move it about 3 spots
3) now your mouse should have control of the window, or keep using the arrow keys
on zooming
try the pinch zoom if on a touch pad or the ctrl key with mouse scroll,
the plus and min button do zoom a little to quick
Direct connection
The Direct connection can be used externally also
Just a little more to setup, but has more features
Because the Direct connect uses a port to connect , the port must be forward to the admin's computer, not the server... unless the server is were you are doing the remote control.... unlikely tho
so the default port 4228, must be forwarded to the computer doing the remote control
AND if you have multiple computers doing the remote control, each must use a different port for the call back
example
computer1 port 4228
computer2 port 4229
computer3 port 4227
SO each port Must be forwarded to each computer, and when the admin does the remote control, they MUST remember to add the correct port for the computer that is being used for the remote control

I tried the right-click trick with move and then arrow keys. It's a little better, in that you can actually move a box. But you don't get to see the movement until after you hit RETURN, so it's kind of a blind movement, for lack of a better term.
I suppose I could make a firewall rule for 4228 directly to my machine. Will have to think about it.
join.me is probably the nirvana in what I'm looking for. Not sure if that's fair or not.
But thanks for the tips. I still love SysAid.

When Sysaid RCG or Direct Connection fails me, I've been using Ammyy. SysAid quite frequently uses it when they do RC sessions with me.

Hello All,
RCG is the way to go.
I will be happy if you could write everything you think about regarding your RC experience and i will get our PM team on this port.
Thanks

I am very happy with both.. they both have there place, and I hope SysAid keeps both
Ever since SysAid v 8.1 (have NOT upgraded to 8.5 YET) I have had NO problems with the remote control feature..... given I only use it on a intranet, and with occasional VPN
I HAD problems with v7 and v7.5 with the direct connection taking 2-3 time before it would connect and stay connected, NO problems since the v8.1
I also use the one click feature with the direct connection occasionally when systems are not setup yet with SysAid agent, or do not want the agent installed

Hi jfor26,
Do you have a SR#?
Please forward it to me and i will take care of it.
As RCG should work and this is exactly what we are here for.
