Dear PHP5er,
You were indeed very clear on one side of the topic, and you base it on your experience with numerous companies so - I am not going to try to convince you......However:
Like everything in life it is not Black or White - the truth lies in the middle :)
First I think you are referring a bit to Grid computing and less to Cloud computing.... Anyway Cloud computing has a wide range of aspects.
For a true Cloud computing environment to be successful you need the providers of the services to know what they are doing.......and even though there may be problems - transparency is what is expected:
Anyone can have problems with their Exchange or File servers in their organization it is a mix of Hardware and Software which may fail....
The expectation is that it will fail a minimum number of times per year, and that it will be back on line in a very short time without loosing information.
Back to The main issue:
Doesn't matter what it is called : SaaS , Cloud Computing , Web services etc.... The use of online components all the way to a full hosted application is a reality and is being used in almost all organizations, or in the near future pipeline in those where it doesn't exist.
A few examples:
You want to swipe a credit card - you can build an application with interfaces etc... most companies provide a "web service" that performs it in a secure way without the need for any software on your end.
Let's say you want to integrate a map of location of your customers , or a route for your salesmen to follow - integrating an online map into your application, becomes a piece of cake....
Those were example of usage of specific components. You trust these services to work and make them an integrated part of your business process. Taking it up another step to a full hosted solution is just a matter of acceptance and usually a mutual decision with the IT and the management to go down that path.
Small and Medium organizations usually can't afford the robust environments that are designed by the Cloud computing service providers, and if anyone needs to deal with downtime , DRP planning and fast recovery - the current trend is to get it as a service.... and usually it will be better than any in house solution.
Ok - That is all for now.... Be back soon with more.....:)
I think and hope that this will turn into an interesting discussion......
Remember - no Wrongs and Rights.... just opinions

Hi APN,
I think that our re-occurring function in the Projects and tasks module can do what you are describing (I attached a screenshot)
You can define a task for something re-occurring and have it either send an email , Text message or even open a Service request in a pre-defined interval.
If you choose to open a service request as your notification you can configure the data that will be entered per notification
Play around with it - and see if it answers your needs.
Regards,
Oded

if your mouse has a roller you can hold Ctrl and use the mouse roller to increase and decrease the zoom / size of font etc of the current window.
A sample of applications it works with:
Office Applications :Word , Excel , Power Point
Internet Browsers : IE , FF , Chrome
Acrobat reader

Hi APN and Roadblockx,
I can confirm that we are developing the option to add attachments to Knowledge base items.
It will be integrated in SysAid CSS in one of the next releases.
Meanwhile, both ways will work.
I heard of another work around some SysAiders came up with :
Upload and Add an attachment to a Service Request,
When you put your mouse over the attachment name in the Service Request Form you get a long link.
You can use this link in the Knowledge base as APN described - it will pull up the attachment.
Good luck !

Dear Portuguese speaking SysAiders !
We are currently working on an official translation of SysAid 5.6 to Portuguese (Brazil).
I would appreciate if one of you chip in and give your inputs on what we put together so far.
We are in the phase of finalizing and testing it so I don't want to post the actual file yet.
Please reply to this post if your are interested in receiving the translation file and I will forward you the information on how to obtain it.
Thanks in advance for your help !

Hi APN,
Currently there is no possibility to add your own icons - just your own item types.
However, we are actually planning exactly this and more :
We are planning to allow you to add also sub types to the item for example:
Product / Type A
Product / Type B
or Service / Service A etc....
To complete this we are also planning to allow you to upload your own Icons for the types and sub types.
We have a lot of exciting features planned for SysAid CSS !
Keep the good ideas coming..... :)

I think that the notes and other long text fields are most painful ones to lose - and it is worth trying to save them somewhere or at lease on the screen.

The official release of 5.6.09 is now available for downloading on our website.
We gathered together some additional fixes in this release - check out the additions at the end of the list in the release notes under Fixes.

Hi,
I have reviewed this issue and there is no right or wrong here - it is a matter of approach:
Some Helpdesk solutions or any other application open SR/records in view mode , and you need to click the edit icon to change. once you click the edit icon - the record is locked and nobody else can click the edit button - he will get a message - record is being edited by someone else - just like when you try to open a Word file or Excel file from a network and it is open by someone else - it opens in read-only mode.
SysAid opens all SR-s in edit mode by default - there is no special operation you need to perform to edit the data - this is the reason situations like this may happen.
I suggest the following :
In case SysAid encounters the above scenario - it will pop-up the same message, but keep all the data that you entered on the screen - the message will also instruct you that if you wish not to loose your changes you should copy them. in most cases re-entering the Service request will allow you to paste/update your changes.
I will see that this development is added to SysAid to make our life a bit easier in this specific aspect.....
...
Additionally we would like to add a secondary email for each user, can this be added?
I opened a Feature Request for this issue - http://www.ilient.com/Sysforums/posts/list/1202.page
Go ahead and vote and chip in your ideas on this !
