Hi techguy,
yes, a patch will be available real soon. We are in the final phases of testing it.
I will post a relevant topic as soon as it is available.

By "How many times is it used/opened ? "
I mean if you have an installed instance of a software that is not being used.... maybe in your Citrix environment it is counted as 1 installation so it is not relevant....

Let me put it this way - if you purchased and installed an MS project license for a manager that didn't even open the application since it was installed - this is information you would like to know.....

Hope that was clear :)

Oded
Hi Everyone,

This issue has been resolved.

Keep enjoying SysAid CSS !

IT Software licenses are relatively a substantial cost in your IT budget,
Both when purchasing the license as Capex, and as a yearly re-occurring Expense in the form of Maintenance or a subscription to updates.

We all have a various portfolio of software installed in our organization starting from MS Project , PDF Creator , Visio , Photoshop and many others.
The common between all the above is that they usually aren't part of the default configuration of all workstations in your organization and require a special request and approval for purchasing and installing them.

A typical scenario could be that a new Director / Manager arrives to your company and you supply him with a new laptop with your standard common installations, it comes back the same day with the request to install in addition Software A, B, C ,and so on....
Sometimes the request is just because he had it on his laptop in his previous job, and sometimes he really needs it - you usually don't even ask......

Now, let's say you have a few licenses of the specific software requested that cost a few hundred bucks each, you don't know if they are being used at all - maybe you can uninstall the license from one workstation and transfer the license ?

OK - so you understand the point - I am not offending any of you - I am sure that for most of you - the title was enough.....

So do you track usage today ?
What level of usage do you track?
Where the software is installed ?
How many times is it used/opened ?
Is it used for view only or also for creating and modifying items ?

All of these questions - or answers can help you save a lot of money !

How about sharing what you do today and where you would like to be in the future in this specific issue.

Thanks for sharing :D

There are several levels of availability and therefore several levels of monitoring the availability :

is the Server up / down ?
Is the Service up / down ?
Is the Port answering ?
Is the Database Running ?
and more and more technical availabilities....

The IT world started by monitoring each individual issue with scripts / logs etc.... and when one part of the chain goes wrong then you are aware of it.
The thing is that in real life - the full chain is unknown - and each time a new chain element (Single point of failure) is discovered - it is either added to the detailed technical monitoring or not.....

Well the IT world evolved a bit in the last decade.... and is able to monitor applications and user experience:
By doing this they check the actual availability from several locations (LAN / WAN / Internet...) and can check business processes.

Do you perform Application monitoring in your organization ?
If so - give some examples.
If not - what is the reason ? the cost of the tools ?

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for pointing this out, We also discovered this and are already preparing a small patch that fixes this ASAP.

The issue is related to the information collected from the agent regarding the Bios type.
The impact of this is very low, it is only text that is displayed and doesn't effect any other functionality, Still a rapid patch will come out to fix this.
Once we make this fix available the BIOS type will simply switch back to it's original text.

Thanks for pointing this out to us.

Meanwhile you can all safely and confidently continue to enjoy all the new and exciting features of this Release !

Oded
Dear techguy,

First - I would like to thank you specifically and all the other pathfinders for your dedication to our Beta process.
We received a lot of inputs from all of you, the inputs were of a few natures:
- Some were related to our new Features in 5.6 - and naturally these got the highest priority.
- Some were related to outstanding fixes that were scheduled to be done and did not make it to this release
- Some were related to new features that you pathfinders expected to see in 5.6 and not all of them made it to this release.

We have an ongoing fruitful discussion in the beta post about all these issues - and the fact that we released the official 5.6 doesn't mean that the issues have been put aside.
Furthermore - the opposite is the situation in this case:
We take our pathfinders very seriously and see them as a statistic sample of the whole of our customers.
We listed all the issues that you and your fellow pathfinders posted and gave them priority - a lot of them are currently in work and we hope to make them available as a patch soon. (Each fix has internal technical constraints that are related to the integrity of the software - so not all fixes can be made available within patches)

During the Beta phase we have communicated at least 3 emails directly to the pathfinders with detailed on the fixes that have been made available - the latest release that you pathfinders tested was a release candidate and became the official release today.

I can understand your comment on the communication in the Beta post on this issue - I will make sure we improve this !

Back to focusing on this Post regarding the new 5.6 release - You can agree with me that the 5.6 Release is an example of one of our better processes. We are supplying a release that went threw a thural Quality Assurance process and no Major issues were encountered - we achieved this with our Great R&D team and the dedication of our pathfinders - I would like to take this opportunity to invite more SysAiders to join our Pathfinders Program.

Best Regards,

Oded
Hi All,

We have discovered an issue that prevents you from saving the Default settings in CSS under Preferences --> Defaults.
After changing the settings and clicking the save - it doesn't save the settings.

We discovered that this happens in Internet Explorer 7.
In FireFox it seems to work fine.

We will fix this issue ASAP and post an update.

my feedback on 5.6.02

...
...

Many thanks for fixing some more bugs. :)

So "Remove HTML tags from the Sr's message" needs a bit more work as detailed above.

So Oded do you still plan to do "a special patch right after we release" that you talked about, which would resolve even more of the other issues I highlighted earlier in this thread, or is that it now until you decide to do another major version?

I can't believe the firstname last name bug in the assigned to field still isn't fixed though - it surely isn't more than 2 minutes work to change it so it displays the persons name the right way round! :(
Oded, did you miss this posting? as you haven't answered any of the questions.
Hi techguy,

Didn't miss your posting - I was reviewing the issues and we are discussing them.
At the moment we are planning our official release next week as promised.
The issues will be addressed and fixed. If they will be available in our next major release or as a patch for 5.6 ? I don't know at the moment - each issue depends on technical aspects related to if we can package it together with our new/existing features from 5.6 and the ones already in the pipeline for 6.0.

I will keep you updated.

Oded
Oded - In response to my earlier post regarding Administrator emails with 5.6.03. Today we setup a test environment for your support to look at. We found that if we upgraded from 5.5.03 directly to 5.6.03 in the test environment than emails seemed to work for both Administrators and Submit Users. However, if we went to 5.6.02 as an interum upgrade, then to 5.6.03, emails did not work for administrators.

Point is, the overall issue with emails to administrators is now moot providing that users with multiple LDAP connetions do not load 5.6.02 befor 5.6.03. Which is not too likely since this will GA at 5.6.03 or beyond.

Just to be clear, this update does not fix any of the other issues I expressed regarding LDAP.

Thanks for your time.
I would like to clarify an issue that may cause confusion here regarding the notifications:

There was an issue in SysAid that started a few releases back related to the fact that automatic notifications were sent to administrators when they themselves performed the action : If I decide from within SysAid to assign a Service Request to myself - there is no need for an email to be sent out to me - I am the one that updated the SR.....
The same goes for the scenario when I open a new Service Request and assign it to myself - no notification is required to be sent out to me.
This issue was fixed from Beta Release 5.6.02 and of course also included in Beta 5.6.03.

Some of maybe weren't aware of this as a problem, or just got used to it - but it was classified as an annoying problem by us and a number of customers as well.

We came around to fix this issue now while developing a new related feature - maybe it wasn't communicated good enough - I will make sure it is now again:
Assigned administrator will not receive the specific automatic notification regarding a Service Request that has just been updated/created by themselves
Again - the idea is that if they performed the change - they don't need the extra email to notify them.

I am not sure you were clear about this and that is maybe what caused your unexpected specific testings issues regarding email notifications.

Now regarding the new feature related to email notifications:
There is a new Checkbox under HelpDesk settings : Send email notification to the submit user.
It will be unchecked by default - if you are a support rep and open service requests for others via phone calls or any other method - until now you have been part of the loop of automatic notifications for all issues related to the service request. The submitter doesn't need to be in the loop just because he was the one that entered the request.... So now we added the option to choose if you want to send email notifications to the submitter - default is NO in the upgrade and new installations.

Hope it is a bit clearer now.....I will see that the release notes are also clear.

I know that your issues regarding the LDAP and special characters have nothing to do with this - but not knowing this may have made it hard on you to perform or understand the results of your tests.

Our support team and R&D would like to accept your offer to access your test environment and see the issues. We created an environment as similar as possible to yours with multiple domains and the issues you experience seem to work fine here with are latest release - so I am sure that your assistance in this case will help us put the finger on the problem and solve it

Thanks for your cooperation and I hope this is last step in providing a full resolution to your problem,

Oded

Oded: No comments on my previous posting above?

URGENT BETA BUG: if you have tasks not assigned to a project, they get duplicated and added to each new project that you create. (I'll email this as an SR as well)
Hi techguy,
Please do send in an SR with more details so we can re-create the behavior.
