What is the platform ?
If it's windows... manage engine's opmanager is free for 5 server. You can monitor everything from, cpu, capacity, services down to event logs and have them mail something to you.
This might shed some light...

Have you snoop around event viewer just in case there's a trace of error there ?
Can't be done without reinstalling...

Since you can pin point the time I second Cohen on looking abit closer to anything "scheduled" antivirus, asset scan, backup....etc
When the password didn't work.. is there an error message ? If yes what did it say ?
This happen to all admin including sysaid default admin ?
Been trying to kill it since 3.1
I have even fired a formal SR for it, they said it's a feature request.

Sounds like the installation file is corrupted... download a new one and try it ?
