I have been trying to get the linux agent installed on CentOS 5 for the past few days and with a lot of help from Adam Mahagna (Sysaid support) I got it working. I have written a guide for our KB which I thought I would share here incase anyone else is having problems. Please note I am very new to Linux so some things may not be correct or work in your environment. I have done this process on 4 servers now and it works for me so far.

We (admins) generally know when something is down. But the users keep coming to tell us. So the news item would be to inform the users not to keep bothering us and let us fix the fault
Is there any way that a news item can be triggered? I am thinking about the way you can specify an incoming email to log a SR. I would like an incoming email to enable a news item. This way the monitoring module or 3rd part monitoring could detect when a server goes down and email Sysaid which would then enable the news item.
If this is not possible could it be moved to the Feature requests
Is it possible to create/use a report that will show me all the computers in my asset list that have a particular software product installed, MS Office 2003 for example. This is the first time I have looked at the reporting side of sysaid so I dont really have much of an idea as to how this would be done.
Just to make things clear. I never got custom web forms working.
I followed suggestions in the other thread to solve my problem. The way it works for us is that a manager fills out a New Starter Form that is on our intranet, that when submitted, is emailed to several addresses. One of which is set in Sysaid and creates a new SR.
This way was ideal for us as the email needed to go to other departments as well as IT and the system was already in place to do this. So the only change was that instead of the email going to all the members of the the IT department, it goes to Sysaid and creates an SR for us.
I am still interested in the custom forms and would also like to see some examples.
Is it possible to have sysaid automatically add the knowledgebase article author to the article and a note to say if it was created from an SR?
If this is not possible could this be moved to the feature requests section.
