I'm a Linux user at home and so not many commercial games work without issues and I hate issues, I'm currently in the process of building a windows machine for some of my gaming needs, but in the meantime I play Urban Terror *A LOT* it's cross platform but works beautifully in Linux.
My game playing dynamics are FPS games mostly, then Strategy Games (think RailRoad Tycoon 2), then Strategy Games like C & C (Warzone 2100 works in Linux), and then just throw away games like Flash games and such.

After making my initial post I did some investigating and found that the script being run is trying to use rpm to pull up package information, ubuntu does not use rpm's it does have the option to install rpm but Isee no reason to do so as it has warning's all over it about bypassing the debian package management tools.
The debian tools have a similar option for bringing up specific package information using dpkg-query and I was playing with that yesterday but then I ran into other problems and didn't have time to explore more. It would seem that debian type systems are not supported as much as RPM distributions.
No matter as my ubuntu server is just a test box anyhow.
Thanks
Dino.

Hi,
Tried installing the Sysaid Linux client on my *TEST* Ubuntu Server and ran into a couple of issues, the one that I'm not sure about is:
"sh: rpm: not found"
I copied the lshw executable to the sysaid client folder ran:
"sudo ./sysaid-lshw.pl ***URL*** ***ACNT*** ***KEY***"
and I get the above error: "sh: rpm: not found"
Should I be worried? can it be ignored?
Thanks for any help.

Instead of re-installing the client on every machine you can use an AutoIt script or maybe even a vbscript to stop the sysaid service on the client machine, change the registry setting for the Sysaid client to point to the new server and then start the sysaid service again.
Relevant keys are:
HKLM\Software\Ilient\agent\MsgURL
HKLM\Software\Ilient\agent\ServerURL
HKLM\Software\Ilient\agent\SubmitURL
I have just recently done this myself and it works a like a charm.

it really depends on why you can't remote acces it, if it's just configured incorrectly but you have admin access the you could try psshutdown, part of the pstools suite, or use VNC, or MSTSC(RDP)
Failing those, then your looking at a more direct approach of going to the machine or calling someone to tap the troubled machine.
If it's a server and it has iLo or iLo2 then you could use the iLo web front end to reboot the server, or if it's on a IP based KVM then you could try using that to reboot the machine too.
Many different ways to kick a machine from remote, I've tried most of them in my days!!!

A seemless upgrade here, although I was proactive enough to stop all sysaid services on the server before doing the upgrade.
And the best part is, all my niggling problems I was going to start pestering the Helpdesk about have already been fixed!
My only complaint is the Software inventory screen takes an age to display, I'd like to see that display a LOT quicker, but this has been the same since the first install of sysaid.
Highly recommended upgrade.
