Actually, this is usually a very easy error to resolve

in order to solve this issue, please hover your mouse over SysAid remote control icon on the taskbar of your workstation. It should say "SysAid remote control viewer listening…" if it has the word "encrypted" in this line, please right click the icon and pick "toggle encryption mode on/off" to disable the encryption.

Next, please logon SysAid server go to system > asset list. Pick the asset you want to remote control, and in its page, go to RC tab.

Please make sure the check box in this page isn’t checked.

Now both server and asset have the same settings, and the RC should work.
You can also do this process to enable encrypted remote control.

One thing that has continued to be a need for us is to have the SysAid RC be able to take advantage of UltraVNC's ability to interact with a UltraVNC Repeater service.

This is critical when you are traveling and need to remotely control a machine, but you are behind NAT (on a hotel's network, etc.) and you can't open the ports back through their firewall to your laptop, etc.

The repeater allows you to use the VNC client to connect to the Repeater running on your server at the corporate office, and then the client calls into the repeater as well, and it links the two of you up together.

I would think that this type of session key for both the admin station and for the workstation to be controlled would be a great feature for SysAid and would insure that remote connectivity between an admin and end user would always be possible no matter where they are.

Just a thought?

Remote Connections in Sysaid

Just a note. I am a new SysAid'er as of a week ago. Our small company is testing and eagerly awaiting the purchase of this great software...

Anyway, I was browsing the forums for tips and saw this thread. I would like to point out two things.

First, to comment on the Vista RC issues. I ran into the same problem using different VNC implementations like TightVNC, UltraVNC, UltraVNC SC, etc. I did find one that actually works properly with Vista for whatever reason. I do not claim to know what the software does when it runs the server session, but it works and it is based on the VNC protocol. Here is the link - http://www.advantig.com/oneclick/

This brings up the next point. The One Click software mentioned above has an option for a VNC Repeater like Harold.Ballinger mentioned. One day this could be a great feature to implement into SysAid to give us one more tool in our belt. In the meantime, we will use a combination of both options.

Maybe someday VNC will be as speedy and reliable as Microsoft's RDP?

I've been doing some reading and it seems possible. If you are familiar with the technology then Mode II would be preferable. The repeater service could run on the SysAid server, thus the URL could be derived from the server URL. The problem I can't get past is how to tell the SysAidRCC.exe at the client to use a repeater/proxy? I can't find anything that indicates that is an option that can be configured via the ultravnc.ini. For Mode II a session ID would need to be generated and communicated to the client as well.
Hi Timmothy Green,

I think that the proxy setting is only needed if you are remote the asset over the internet.
Exactly what the discussion was about; the need to be able to do NAT2NAT remote control. The way I understand it when the Agent calls back to my workstation running the Remote Control Tool it attempts to make a direct connection to my workstation on :4228 (by default). If I my workstation is behind a firewall, unless I have setup a static NAT or port forwarding it will not work. What we were discussing is a system that would not require configuration of the firewall/router. It would be nice to be able to pull out my laptop anywhere and conduct an RC session without having to worry about whether I'm behind a firewall. In most cases I will be and in many I may not have the ability to setup NAT or port forwarding.

The proxy setting you referred to in the deployment tool allows the Agent to connect to the SysAid server if a proxy is required in that location to reach the Internet, but that won't help if the workstation running the RC Tool is also behind a firewall that doesn't have a static NAT or port forwarding rule setup.

Will the Agent even use the proxy for the RC connection on :4228?

We have several users who work from home offices 90% of the time and it would be nice to be able to use the SysAid RC feature to assist them. Right now we use ScreenConnect which works great and is not really all that expensive, but is not integrated into SysAid.

Re:Remote Connections in Sysaid

We are in the same position as you Timmothy, we need to be able to access multiple client sites from multiple locations and we are finding this is not really working for us due this limitation in SysAid, and as such have begun looking for alternatives to provide the firewall friendly remote support we need. There are a number of other systems out there than can provide this. I do like the integration of all the systems in the one product (SysAid), but, if we have to break it out and change to a RC tool and a Ticketing tool, we will.

I'm not trying to make threats or anything, its just that the reality is; this functionality is a requirement to provide remote support because of a) remote workers, b) firewall security for both ends of the connection and c) it is not always possible/ nor is it practicle to have to update and maintain static IP's and port forwarding rules constantly.

I would prefer not to have to change our ticketing system and re-deploy agents so I'm hoping there is some attention to this on the next release. Maybe if we can get some more votes on the feature request (scroll up a bit), it will be looked at and prioritised.

Re:Remote Connections in Sysaid

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knew how to customise the default connection options for UltraVNC? I had a look around on their site but couldn't find the answer

We are experiencing disconnections from client machines when running at highest quality, I'd like to force the default settings to 256 colour (currently having to do this manually at the start of each session)

I have found C:\Program Files\SysAidTools\ultravnc.ini but I'm not sure what parameters to edit in here...

Many thanks as always,
nick
