Can anybody tell me how to solve the next problem.
We have a lot offside customers. One of those clients has 1 mother company and a couple of sister companies. All with their own network.
I have added 1 end user for this company. He is in charge of the Service requests.
So if one of the companies have a problem, they contact him and he will fill in a SR.

As we named all the servers of this company. “server01” you can feel the problem coming.
When this end user fill in a SR, he can choose on which asset the problem occurs.
Now when he click on the asset field to choose an asset, he will see 6 times server01.
How will he be able to pick the correct asset???

I think sysaid need some attention here. Is it possible to see the description of the asset in this list instead of the asset name?

If this is not possible to change this , then I must delete this option in the SR page of course.
And this is again a major drawback in sysaid at the moment…
We can not rename servers, this will give us a whole lot of trouble. Exhange is one of the things that don't like a renaming of a server.

Can you tell us if you have 6 assets named SERVER01?
Are they all under the same company?

Well it is the same company but with different departments in different cities. Thus every department has his own network and server.
There is 1 end user who sends in all the service request for all the departments.
So if [b]department A[/b] has a problem with the server, they call this guy and this guy will send in a SR and in the SR page he must choose which asset has a problem.
The problem here is that he can't see which server01 belongs to which department on the SR page.
I hope this makes sense

You really put us in a weird situation. It is very uncommon for the same company to have different assets with the same name.
In SysAid, you cannot set the asset field (in the service request submission form) to show the description (or any other field) instead of the name. I thought about your scenario and found one solution that may be suitable for you.
If you have one person for each company that is in charge of submitting service requests for all departments, then you could create a different user account for him/her for each department. For example, you can create John-Sales, John-HR, John-Accounting, John-Operations, etc.
Each user account will be associated with SERVER01 of that department (in the users field of the asset).

When the user (John) will want to submit a service request for the Accounting department, he'll logon as John-Accounting. This should offer SERVER01 from the Accounting department as the only option to select.

Yes I know it is very uncommon to name servers within a company the same.
This is a legacy from the past. We would love to see it changed.
It will be changed when there will be new servers placed.
For now we would make it unnecessary difficult for us if we change the name of the servers.

We had the same solution as you in our mind and we will go for that.

can´t you rename those servers in SysAid? Coz I tried to change the name of asset and it works. I know it sounds very easy and surely there is another issue with it, otherwise you solved this on your own. But it´s my little idea and I want to know you opinion

MS Exchange does not like a rename of the DC. To bad.

I did not mean "rename the server" like physically change the name of the server. Just rename the "asset in the SysAid". In the list of assets. Go to details and change the name of asset

I see this thread is almost a year old, but I thought I would make a comment anyway.. maybe I should be adding this as a feature request.

Perhaps the best way to solve Rene's problem is have the asset recorded with its FQDN rather than the Host name.

server01.domainA.local
server01.domainB.local
etc..

This will be a good information to add to your assets, and there is already a very similar feature request about monitoring assets with the same name, and i think using the FQDN for this can be a good solution.
