Purchase cost for Asset

Is there any way of linking the purchase cost for an asset to the catalog? Say for instance we have a standard price for a dell monitor I would want to be able to issue that item to a department and generate a report to say "cutomer services were issued 5 x dell monitors @ £90 - July 2012". My hope is that we could produce an annual cost per department of consumables and replacement items. There is a field of purchase cost when producing a new asset but I wanted to use this if something is a standard price throughout the year.
