Microsoft EWS Protocol Support - has two bugs

It does not permanently delete Emails after reading them. It just moves to deleted items

It corrupts .msg attachments in the Emails sent to helpdesk

Hi Spastibus,

The move to deletion is performed by the mailing server itself and depends on how it handles deletion. This is normal.
The .msg attachments are currently not supported. This might be changed in the future.

Danny

Dear:

I downloaded the SysAidServerPatchFree_17_2_03.exe file to update the installation I have with SysAid version 16.3.18, with SQL Server 2008 r2, (SP2) on Windows Server 2012 R2.

When you run the file, the installation of SQL Server 2014 SP2 starts, but it stops with an error message in SQL Server 2014 free upgrade.

Greetings.

Hi Andrés,

Can you please post a screenshot of the error message?

Thanks,
Danny

I tested using OWA and EWS as mail integration server types on the same mailbox. OWA works as expected and so does POP3 but EWS does not. This is not normal

Funny as POP3 has no problems with .msg attachments.
Then EWS and OWA integration mail server types should ignore them and not attach corrupted or 0 byte files.
I am very interested in a comprehensive list of supported attachments per mail integration server type. I looked around but I could never find one. I reported this .msg attachment bug in #591458 five years ago. Maybe it is time to acknowledge a bug here or supply a list of supported attachments. From my point of view it is very easy to say "not supported" if no list of features or functionality exists.

Hi Spastibus,

SysAid performs the same action to delete emails for every protocol - the mail server decides what to do with it, so I suggest checking the configuration on your mail server. If you still have doubts, I suggest contacting our customer support team for further investigation.

Regarding .msg files - I have checked further on this topic and embedded .msg and .eml attachments cannot be supported due to limitations with Moonrug and the API for EWS regarding this type of attachment.

Cheers,
Danny

Dear Danny:

I have solved the problem. The SQL Server version provided by the SysAid installer is English ENU language. Windows Server was configured regionally for Spanish Argentina ESP (Arg). I temporarily changed this configuration and was able to run the update patch to version 17.2.03 without any problem.

Greetings.

Hi andresabalde,

From my understanding this is one of Microsoft's requirements for installation of MS SQL - the OS should be the same language during installation. However, in our QA lab we managed to install it on different language systems, so I'm not sure why the issue occurred on your side.

Cheers,
Danny

Hello Danny

Do you have already an answer from Moonrug when they will fix the not supported .msg attachments?

Thanks and regards.

Hi Bohonos,

From my understanding, these will no longer be supported. If these attachments are critical to your operation, I suggest discussing this with your account manager to see if anything can be done.

Cheers,
Danny

Is there any more information I can find on the Vendor Management? Is it supposed to be able to pull the warranty information from the vendor?

Thanks, David

Hi David,

This is not the purpose of this feature, no. You can read more about Vendor Management here.
