Remote Discovery for
SysAid Releases

The SysAid Server comes with a built-in discovery service that performs network scans.

In some cases, with firewall restrictions for example, you may wish to install a Remote Discovery Service in your remote networks to perform the scans from within that network and not from the SysAid Server. The data will then be transferred back to the SysAid Server using the secured http protocol (similar to actions performed by SysAid Agents).

Please download the Remote Discovery Service (for Windows) and install it in your remote network on the computer from which you want to perform the scans.

During the installation, enter the Account ID and Server URL, which appear under Settings > Network Discovery > Download in your SysAid.

Your Remote Discovery Service runs as a service on the computer you have chosen. As soon as it successfully establishes communication with your SysAid Server, it will appear as an available discovery service under Settings > Network Discovery > Deploy Agents, where you can manage your remote scans.

Local Permissions for Remote Discovery Service

Make sure that the workstation that runs the Remote Discovery Service runs it using an administrator account. This can be checked from Windows Services > SysAid Discovery Service. Right-click this service and select Properties > Log On tab. Select This account and specify the administrator username and password. Then restart the service.

Now you should see the name of this discovery service in the list of the computers in the Network Discovery module within SysAid.

Note that since version 8.0 of the Remote Discovery Service, a special user account with administrator privileges called sysaidinternal is already created for this purpose.
