The shift away from ‘service management’ as described in previous versions of ITIL towards ‘value management’ in ITIL 4 represents an increasing awareness of how technology has permeated every facet of a company’s operations, transforming the way in which value is co-created.

Yet despite the many IT professionals gaining ITIL 4 certification Katrina’s belief that the essence of ITIL 4 is not understood. Once we truly understand ITIL 4 we can start thinking differently about IT service management and stop relying on a framework to tell us how to do things.
