SysAid February Newsletter Header

Dear SysAiders,

The news is out! As I'm sure you've heard by now, SysAid will be holding the SysAid Technology Conference in Las Vegas from April 28 to April 30, 2010 at the MGM Grand Hotel! This incredible milestone marks an event of firsts in more ways than one: it's the first conference we've ever held; those who attend will be the first to see our next major release, SysAid 7.0; you'll gain expertise in never-before-seen material covering the ins-and-outs of SysAid; you'll meet each other - and us! - for the first time!

These incredible three days are going to be packed with intensive SysAid workshops, hands-on training sessions, and lectures from the creators of SysAid to help you maximize its many features and functionalities. This is your chance to sharpen your IT skills and become a true SysAid pro - and you'll get a diploma to prove it! The early bird registration deal is available for only 8 more days, so now's the time to register and mark the SysAid Technology Conference on your calendars!

In the spirit of firsts, I took a walk down memory lane a few weeks ago and reinstalled SysAid 1.0, our very first release. Looking at it now, I see how much our company and product have grown in the past six years. Despite the many changes, I was also struck by the aspects of SysAid that have stayed the same: our vision of simplicity, our commitment to support, and the loyalty of our customers. Much of our product is what it is today thanks to you, and until now, I've never had the chance to meet you in person. That's why I'm so excited to go to Las Vegas this April. For me, the most important "first" of the SysAid Technology Conference is that we'll all be able to get together in one place and meet each other for the first time!

Viva Las Vegas and Viva IT! I truly look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Israel Lifshitz, CEO

Taking Command - You Can Do IT!

Every four years, the summer Olympic Games broadcast to billions of viewers worldwide, and for four Olympic Games in a row, track and field star Carl Lewis amazed the world with his Herculean athletic ability. Over the course of his legendary career, Carl has won 9 Olympic gold medals and 8 World Championship gold medals, set one of the sport's longest winning streaks with 65 consecutive long jump victories, and established himself as a household name as a dominant sprinter and long jumper. Carl was voted "Sportsman of the Century" by the International Olympic Committee, and Sports Illustrated named him "Olympian of the Century." In short, Carl Lewis is considered to be one of the greatest track and field athletes of all time!

This April, you'll have the opportunity to rub elbows with a living legend - we're proud to present Carl Lewis as the keynote speaker of the SysAid Technology Conference!

Joe and Carl Lewis

Learn what it takes to succeed - on the track and in IT!

According to Carl, winning requires much more than natural ability - it's about setting goals, believing in yourself, and focusing on what needs to be done to overcome all odds. In 1979, many critics told Carl that winning 4 gold medals in a single Olympic game was impossible, but Carl did just that with his personal motto of "I can do that!" At the SysAid Technology Conference, Carl will explain how to do what it takes to win - on and off the track. Get the motivation you need to develop a champion mindset and achieve success in your IT department!

Go for the gold with Carl Lewis at the SysAid Technology Conference. Register now for the early bird registration price - it expires in just 8 days!

IT Benchmark Analysis
Are Your End-Users Using the End-User Portal?

Now that we've released new IT Benchmark results, it's time to see how your statistics measure against other SysAid organizations worldwide! Since the release of SysAid 6.5, we've populated the Worldwide Distribution Charts of 7 different measurements to give you immediate insight into your IT performance.

In the IT Benchmark, you'll now see results for "Percentage of Service Requests Opened via the End-User Portal" - a measurement that reflects how many service requests your support department receives via the End-User Portal. Among SysAiders who use the End-User Portal, on average, 38% of service requests are opened via the End-User Portal. This shows you that in general, there is a trend among organizations to automate helpdesk processes.

In the graph above, you can also identify the two extreme ends of the spectrum. On one end, 13.39% of the SysAiders surveyed hardly use the End-User Portal at all as part of their helpdesk processes - close to 0% of their service requests are submitted via the End-User Portal.

On the other end of the spectrum, 7.14% of SysAiders surveyed are maximizing the End-User Portal to its fullest extent: almost 100% of their service requests are submitted via the End-User Portal! These SysAiders are capitalizing on its multiple advantages:
  • 100% availability: With the End-User Portal, your end-users can quickly submit service requests 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • High-quality data: When service requests are submitted according to automated processes, you have immediate access to request time, request user, attached asset, screenshots, categories, urgency, and other relevant information. This minimizes data entry problems.
  • Increased productivity: With less manpower needed to answer phone calls and manually gather necessary information, you can focus your energy and resources on more important tasks
If your strategy is to maximize the usage of the End-User Portal in your organization, you should strive to reach a high value in this measurement. You can launch a SysAid Internal Campaign to encourage and educate your end-users - once they see how easy SysAid is to use and understand its benefits, they'll be quick to jump on board.

Detailed analysis of your IT performance is at your fingertips - for free! If you haven't already gotten started with the IT Benchmark, go to your local installation and under Helpdesk menu, open the IT Benchmark module. Make sure that the measurements are enabled. Once you click save, the IT Benchmark will calculate the statistics and provide you with updated information.

To discuss this measurement and other IT Benchmark results, visit the IT Benchmark Forum on the SysAid Community. If there are different measurements you'd like to see in the future, that's the place to tell us!

Creating Reminder Notifications
From Sarah Lahav,
Head of SysAid Customer Service and Support

Sarah Lahav We live in a busy world - both inside and outside the IT department - so with each new release of SysAid, we try to find ways to help you ease your workload and work more efficiently. With SysAid 6.5, you can now create Reminders to help you stay on top of important dates and deadlines. This is an excellent feature for every busy IT pro out there!

The Reminders tool is simple: choose a date for fields under Asset, Catalog, CI, Project, Software, Supplier, and Task; before the date arrives, SysAid will automatically "remind" you by opening a service request, sending you a text message, or sending you an email.

Sarah tip screenshot1 february2010.jpg

For example, the "Reminders" feature comes in handy when you want to know that an asset's warranty is due to expire. Under Asset Maintenance, you can use one of the available custom fields to indicate the next maintenance date. When the warranty expiration date approaches, SysAid will automatically notify the administrators you specify. They will then have enough time to prepare for the event.

Sarah tip screenshot2 february2010.jpg

With the "Reminders" feature, you no longer have to remember the expiration date of a specific software license, important deadlines will no longer catch you by surprise, and you can now create a schedule to work according to more efficient and organized processes. It's just one of the many ways that SysAid can help make your life a lot easier!

Riddle
Einstein's Puzzle

As many discovered, last month's riddle was trickier than it appeared! In case you missed it, you can check it out here - and if you're dying to know the answer, you can also take a look at the solution at last!

This month, we've given you a challenge straight from the genius mind of Albert Einstein himself. It's said that Albert Einstein invented this riddle when he was a little boy and stated that "only 2 percent of the world's population can solve it." (Many people question the authenticity of this claim and insist that Einstein never wrote the riddle - but it's a good story!)

There are no tricks - just logic, so don't give up!

  1. On a street, there are five houses painted five different colors.
  2. In each house lives a person of a different nationality.
  3. These fives homeowners each drink a different beverage, smoke a different brand of cigar, and keep a different pet.

THE QUESTION: WHO OWNS THE FISH?

Hints:
  1. The Brit lives in a red house.
  2. The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
  3. The Dane drinks tea.
  4. The green house is next to and on the left of the white house.

Click here to read the rest of the hints and solve the riddle -
how 'bout it, Einstein?!

SysAid Poll of the Month
What's the Most Exciting Thing Planned for the Conference?

Olympic glory ... the glitter of Las Vegas ... SysAid 7.0 revealed ... IT pros sharing challenges and swapping ideas ... there are so many exciting things lined up for the SysAid Technology Conference! The really great thing about the agenda we designed is that it offers something for everyone. Want to learn all about SysAid's customization options? You got it. Interested in what IT pros forecast for the future? The Editor-in-Chief of Network World is there. Your jaw ever dropped watching Carl Lewis set yet another world record? Listen what he has to say in person. And of course, want to have a good time? It's all going to be there in Vegas!

So in your opinion:
What's the most exciting thing planned for the SysAid Technology Conference?

Last month we asked:
What's the longest amount of time you've taken off for vacation?

The majority of SysAiders have taken several weeks to a month off for vacation! The results, however, may be deceiving: we all know there's a big difference between being out of the office and truly on holiday. Many SysAiders point out that even when on vacation, they're never truly unplugged: emails need to be answered, phone calls need to be returned, and the work never stops. On the SysAid Community, EbroIN suggests a holiday location that may give him a moment's rest at last:

"Maybe I can arrange a trip to Patagonia; I've heard they still have trouble covering all areas with GPRS, so there is still a chance for silence at last! ?"

Another good place to unwind while also enjoying everything IT? Las Vegas - this April!
